02-25-11 Father/Daughter Dinner, Alamo, CA - East Bay

Round Hill Country Club had Wolfgang Niesielski and myself out to draw caricatures once again.
Tonight we were joined by our colleague Gordon Ng.

This is another annual event I do. I'm not even sure how many years, but it's been quite a few.

The first part of the evening was super busy, but as the night wore on there were less and less girls in line.
Gordon was drawing in color all night long. Wolfgang was drawing profiles and adding bodies and animals as he usually does.
I spent most of the night drawing in black and white and averaging about 15 images per hour.
Toward the end I did a few caricatures in color.

Here's a shot of one of my final drawings of the night.

Special thanks go out to agent/entertainer Carla Winter and her CWE, Carla Winter's Entertainment, for our presence at the event.

Artist draws 3 minute Caricature of a couple - East Bay

Here's a video of me drawing my friend and colleague, Wolfgang Niesielski, and his wife from last June.
Wolfgang ran the caricature stand at Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara in the mid '90's.
I managed the artists schedule and drew there myself various times from '96-2000.

PS - I don't always draw this fast. My standard speed is about 3-4 minutes per person, but when given the chance I'll sometimes take up to 10 minutes on one black & white caricature.

Thanks!

Big AL

This weekend I draw at a father/daughter dinner event and a bank opening in San Jose.

We're often asked how does one pronounce the word ... CARICATURE!

CARICATURE

Big Al has been a working professional Caricaturist in the San Francisco Bay Area since June 1985!

In the coming weeks this blog will attempt to entertain and educate about CARICATURE!

02-19-11 Purplicious Birthday Party, Walnut Creek, CA - East Bay

Referrals are great. Saturday, February 19th I drew caricatures at a 55th Birthday.
The guest of honor was in attendance at last weeks 1st Birthday and I was booked literally on the spot.

Here are some of my drawings from the event.

Please excuse the quality of the photos. I forgot my Canon and only had my cell phone.

02-14-11 Cortona Park, Brentwood, CA 94513 - Delta Region

Cortona Park, Senior Living in Brentwood had me come out and draw caricature portraits at their Valentine's Day event.

This is the 3rd time Cortona Park has had me out to draw since June of last year. I hope to be back many more times.

It's always a pleasure to draw just a few miles from home.

02-12-11 1st Birthday, Vallejo, CA

There's been a lot of interest in birthday party events lately.

Saturday, February 12 found this caricaturist drawing at a carnival themed 1st birthday party in Vallejo, CA.

Here's the first drawing of many I did at the event. The birthday girl and her parents.

Sometimes people ask: "how do people find you?" Well, I've got a website, artist referrals (which is how I ended up at this event), yellow pages, wedding fairs and sometimes there is an immediate response at an event. This weekend I'll be drawing for a guest of this party!

02-10-11 World Ag Expo, Tulare, CA - Day 3

It was a great week of drawing caricatures in Tulare.

Here's some of my quick portrait drawings from the final day of this year's World Ag Expo.

I started out drawing one of the GM Specialists.

This was the only color drawing I did at the show. It was too busy to attempt color with any regularity.

02-09-11 World Ag Expo, Tulare, CA - Day 2

On Wednesday, day 2 of the 2011 World Ag Expo, I drew 87 11x14" caricature portraits plus one 8.5x11" from a distance.
TV station CBS 47 had a booth right across from GMC. At noon each day of the Ag Show they had a live broadcast featuring Jenny Toste. I drew Jenny from the bleachers on my lunch break.

Here's some of my favorite images from day 2.
Starting with the first drawing of the morning.

02-08-11 World Ag Expo, Tulare, CA - Day 1

Tuesday found BigAlArt in Tulare at the World Ag Expo drawing at the GMC booth for the 8th year. This year my drawing partner was Rasa Vitalia. Here are some of my caricature captures from the first day of the 3 day show. I used 77 sheets of 11x14", 67# vellum bristol this day.

This was the first portrait sketch of the day and the show.

This young man got drawn early in the day and came back later and asked if I could do an exaggerated caricature.

This was the last of Tuesday's drawings.

02-05-11 Private Party, Brentwood, CA

It's always nice to work close to home.

Saturday, February 5, 2011 found me in Brentwood, CA 94513.

Around 25 quick black and white caricature portraits drawn by this artist at a 12 year old's surprise party.

Everyone seemed to enjoy their drawings.

Drew too quick for pics.

01-31-11 West Valley College, Saratoga, CA - South Bay

The final day of January 2011 found this artist drawing Caricature portraits for West Valley College.
It was the start of a new semester and Student Activities had me come and draw for "Welcome Week".
They were a fun and varied group.

Here are some of my Chisel Tip Marker stylings from the event-
